NORTH BERGEN, NJ. (August 20, 2023) As Jersey City continues to celebrate the annual Jersey City Pride festival, another mainstay in the city makes its return this weekend with the annual Jersey City Puerto Rican Day Festival celebrating its 63rd anniversary. The first Jersey City Puerto Rican Day Parade traces its roots to 1961 when it was started as a way for Jersey City’s Puerto Rican community to acknowledge their culture and heritage.

I.L.A Local 1588 joined in the celebration to support the Parade with our very own International Vice President and President of I.L.A. Local 1740 from Puerto Rico – Carlos Ortiz Sanchez. He was welcomed by International Vice President and President of I.L.A. Local 1588 Virgil Maldonado, I.L.A.; Local 1588 Recording Secretary Neil Pacilio; State of New Jersey Assemblyman William Sampson, and many I.L.A. Local 1588 members.
