ILA President Harold Daggett Statement on Confirmation of Marty Walsh As U.S. Labor Secretary

Congratulations to the Honorable Marty Walsh on his confirmation Monday by the United  States Senate as Secretary of Labor.

On behalf of the 65,000 members of the International Longshoremen’s Association, I offer my congratulations to you, Mr. Secretary, on your confirmation as United States Secretary of Labor.  It was an honor to speak to you prior to your confirmation and allow me to reiterate our praise of President Joseph Biden for choosing you for this Cabinet position and reaffirm our pledge to  support and help you and the Labor Department protect American workers.

The ILA has a real friend in Secretary Marty Walsh, who has enjoyed a long and productive relationship with our Sister and Brother ILA members in the Port of Boston, where Secretary Walsh served with distinction as Mayor prior to his nomination by President Biden to lead the Labor Department.

Secretary Walsh believes in the Power of Union membership; believes in America’s Working Families. His confirmation represents a return of our U.S. Department of Labor that is dedicated to protecting workers rights, including the rights to organize; worker safety and training and equality and fairness in the workplace.

Secretary Marty Walsh’s Confirmation is a great day for the members of the ILA and all American Workers.
