Integrated/C&C Donates Two 40-Foot Containers; Maher Terminals Offers Area To Accept Aid For Puerto Rico

The ILA is requesting locals bring donations & volunteer manpower to Maher Terminals, beginning this Thursday, Oct. 5th at 9 am.

NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (Oct. 3, 2017) The International Longshoremen’s Association announced that Integrated/C&C company has donated two 40-foot containers which will be staged outside the training center at Maher Terminals, 1210 Corbin Street, Elizabeth, New Jersey beginning this Thursday, October 5, 2017 to accept donations for ILA members in Puerto Rico.

“We are grateful to Integrated/C&C for donating these two 40-foot containers,” said International President Harold Daggett. “The company is also handling transporting these containers to South Jersey where they will be loaded on a barge and shipped to San Juan, Puerto Rico. We are also grateful to Maher Terminals for allowing us to load these containers outside the NYSA-ILA Training Center on Corbin Street.”

The ILA is currently receiving donations of goods at their headquarters in North Bergen, New Jersey. The ILA is asking its membership to bring the following donated items to Maher Terminals this Thursday beginning at 9 am: generators, batteries, electrical cords, blankets, batteries, clothing items, non-perishable food items and water.

In addition, the ILA is asking members to donate time to volunteer at Maher Terminals this Thursday to help load these containers bound for Puerto Rico.

“We know our generous ILA members will donate supplies and manpower to help our devastated ILA members in Puerto Rico.

Hurricane Maria brought death and destruction when it hit Puerto Rico on September 20th. Now, two weeks later, much of the island is still without power, with massive food and water shortages.

“We hope to fill both containers on Thursday,” said ILA President Daggett, “and get it shipped to Puerto Rico as quickly as possible. “We thank our Sisters and Brothers in the Seafarer’s International Union and specifically Augie Tellez for their assistance assisting the ILA with transporting these containers from the Port of Camden.”

Thursday, October 6, 2017 will be the ILA’s Day of Caring and Sharing at Maher Terminals beginning at 9 am.
