ILA’s South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District To Host Educational Conference November 6-10 In Nashville, Tennessee
NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (November 4, 2023) The South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District of the International Longshoremen’s Association will host a five-day Educational Conference November 6 to 10, 2023 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville Tennessee, according to ILA District President Alan Robb.
Hundreds of ILA officers and members, from many Locals are expected to attend the Educational Conference, intended to train, and update union local ILA officers on wide ranging subjects from Department of Labor requirements to officers’ fiduciary responsibilities.
The Educational Conference kicks off on Monday, November 6th with a Southeastern Dock & Marine Council Meeting. International President Harold J. Daggett will open the Conference on Tuesday, November 7th, and is expected to present ILA members with an update on the current Master Contract negotiations.
With the current six-year agreement set to expire in less than a year, President Daggett intends to build on remarks about negotiations with United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) that he delivered at the ILA’s Quadrennial Convention in July. President Daggett made is clear in his July keynote speech that the union will continue to fight automation at any of its ports and he expects USMX to deliver a landmark compensation package. The ILA leader will caution ILA members that these upcoming Wage Scale negotiations will be challenging and, because the union will hold firm on its pledge not to extend the contract beyond its expiration date of September 30, 2024, that members should prepare for the possibility of a coast-wide strike in October 2024.
ILA Executive Vice President Dennis A. Daggett will also address ILA participants at the Nashville Conference.
“The South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District has put together a strong Educational Conference with quality speakers, discussing important subject matters for ILA Local Union leaders,” said District President Robb. “Our aim with these Educational Conferences is to make our ILA Local Leaders better prepared to serve the ILA membership they represent.”
