NORTH BERGEN, NJ (July 11, 2020) The International Longshoremen’s Association today condemned a Seward, Alaska company for union busting, hiring non-ILWU workers to perform jobs historically done by members of Local 60 of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
“We are extremely concerned that Possehl Erzkontor GmbH (Peter Cremer) and Alask Logistics have recently hired non-union, out-of-state longshore workers to perform jobs historically done by members of ILWU Unit 60,” said ILA President Harold J. Daggett and Executive Vice President Dennis A. Daggett in a letter send to labor organizations around the world. “The actions …are nothing shore of union busting.”
The ILA said they “stand in solidarity” with Unit 60, ILWU and join with the International Transport Workers’ Federation and ILWU calling for the management company to engage in good-faith dialogue with the ILWU and ITF to resolve the issues in Seward and hire unionized crews.”
