The International Longshoremen’s Association mourns the passing of Stephen Lanier Sparks, a member of ILA Local 1459 at the Port of Mobile, Alabama and who was a proud ILA longshoreman for 50-years.
“In every union, you have that one member who held every office and was loved by all members and held in the highest respect. In ILA Local 1459, that was Brother Steve Sparks,” shared Scott Adams, a friend and long-time ILA Local 1459 colleague of Brother Stephen Sparks.
Brother Sparks is survived by his wife, Liz. She and the family announced the following services: Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 370 S Section St., Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 10 am to 11 am. This will be followed by a Memorial Mass at St. Lawrence Catholic Church from 11 am to 12 pm.
Committal will take place at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605 on November 7, 2026, beginning at 1 pm.
