NORTH BERGEN, NJ (November 14, 2024) – The Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) Queensland Branch wasted little time expressing powerful support and solidarity with the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) in the fight against job-crippling automation. Just hours after the ILA broke off talks with United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) on Tuesday, November 13th, when employers introduced their intent to implement semi-automation into the language of a new Master Contract, Aaron Johnston, Acting Branch Secretary with the MUA’s Queensland Branch, sent a message to the ILA pledging “unwavering solidarity with you in your battle against the USMX’s attempt to impose automation and semi-automation at ILA ports – a move that would threaten the jobs, livelihoods, and future of longshore workers. “
