ILA Civil, Human & Women’s Rights Committee To Honor Three ILA Leaders and President of Shipping Association of New York and New Jersey at Awards Dinner This Saturday
NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (November 2, 2022) Three ILA Leaders and the President of Shipping Association of New York and New Jersey will be honored this Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Ninth Annual International Longshoremen’s Association Civil, Human & Women’s Rights Committee Award Dinner to be held at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel in Elizabeth, New Jersey, according to an announcement by Committee Chair Herbert Hall, Sr.
Michael J. Vigneron, President, Atlantic Coast District and Secretary-Treasurer, Local 1804-1, ILA; Billy Williams, Secretary-Treasurer, South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District; Shekida Spruill, President, Local 1963, Port of Hampton Roads, Virginia; and John Nardi, President, Shipping Association of the New York and New Jersey are the 2022 honorees.
The ILA Civil, Human & Women’s Rights Committee is named in honor of two late ILA legendary leaders – Alex Talmadge from the Port of Philadelphia and Wilmington, and Edward L. Brown, Sr., from the Port of Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Herbert Hall, Sr., currently leads the ILA’s Civil Rights Committee, along with Rodney Owens, Vice Chairman; Gregory L. Washington, Recording Secretary; Mary Ann Gillespie and committee members: Anthony Arrufat; Michael Baker; Billie Jean Easley; Yvette Flowers; Mary Gima; Kenneth L. Grey; Herbert Hall, Jr.; Stephen Knott; Patrick Murphy; Carlos Sanchez Ortiz; and Alan A. Robb.
Vigneron, who leads the ILA’s Atlantic Coast District as President, will be receiving the “Martin Luther King, Jr. Award.”
Billy Williams, Secretary-Treasurer of the ILA’s South Atantic and Gulf Coast District, is slated to receive the “Labor Leader Award.” Shekida Spruill, President, Local 1963, Port of Hampton Roads and Recording Secretary for Hampton Roads District Council, will be honored with the “Women’s Rights Award.” John Nardi, President, Shipping Association NY&NJ, will receive the “William Bernard Dudley Humanitarian Award”.
ILA President Harold J. Daggett will address the Civil, Human & Women’s Rights Committee Dinner. Scheduled to begin at 6 pm at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel, 1000 Spring Street, Elizabeth, NJ.
