ILA Local 1414 Members Honored and Recognized as Heroes at the Port of Savannah

A few weeks ago, an accident occurred on the dock at the Port of Savannah when a vessel’s gangway collapsed.

ILA Local 1414 member Marquis Carter was coming down the vessel gangway when the gangway collapsed off the dock into the river causing him to fall.
Local 1414 union brothers and co-workers Javon Hampton, Marcus Godlock, and Kaylon Ferris were the first to respond to help save Brother Carter’s life by keeping him from falling in the river.

Gateway Terminals wanted to honor those individuals for their heroic act by recognizing them today at the local during checkout.
ILA Local 1414 President Paul Mosley, Sr. gave some encouraging words to the heroes of Local 1414 as well as to the membership about having each other’s back and being safe on the job.

Gateway Terminals executive Kevin Price, Gateway Terminals headsafety representative Rob Wells, and ILA Local 1414 safety representative Kevin Jenks visited the Local to honor the individuals and for saving Brother Carter’s life. They presented them with Carhartt jackets to show their company’s appreciation, and to thank them for what they did on the waterfront at the Port of Savannah!
