From the Port of Miami to the Port of Hampton Roads, ILA Spreads Holiday Cheer In Their Local Communities

NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (December 20, 2023) The Holiday Season 2023 was made merrier in the Port areas of Miami, Florida and Hampton Roads, Virginia as ILA Locals spread holiday cheer to their local communities.

In South Florida, ILA Local 1416 held their annual “ILA Toy Distribution Day” in early December as hundreds of toys were distributed in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood.

In Hampton Roads, the 11th Annual “Make a Kid Smile for Christmas” bike drive was held. ILA Locals 970, 1248, 1624, 1970 and the Hampton Roads District Council partnered with the Port of Virginia and the Hampton Roads Shipping Association to donate 191 bicycles to needy children from six different schools. The “Keith Clark Make a Kid Smile for Christmas Bike Drive” was named for ILA Local 1248 retired member Keith Clark, whose longshore career was cut short by a port injury, but who dedicated his life after his career ending injury to help children in need experience the joys of the Holiday Season.
