Twelve-Year-Old Child of Brooklyn ILA Member In Critical Need Of Bone Marrow Donor!

NORTH BERGEN, NJ (April 27, 2023) A 12-year-old boy, whose father is a longshoreman at Red Hook Terminal in Brooklyn and a member of ILA Local 1814, is in desperate need of bone marrow donors to help save his life.

The family said the youngster was recently diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia, a rare but serious blood condition that occurs when your bone marrow cannot make enough new blood cells for your body to work normally.

“We are frantically looking for bone marrow donors to hopefully find a match for him to save his life,” the ILA family said. “This all happened about two weeks ago, and our young boy will be going into the hospital in a week or so for two months to treat this aggressively. He must start chemotherapy while we search for a bone marrow donor.”

The family is distributed the attached flier in the hopes of reaching the greatest audience to find a match for their beloved 12-year-old. The flier directs potential donors to visit the website: https://bethematch.org/.

The International Longshoremen’s Association calls on all its members to consider being a bone marrow donor and visit the website to see how you can help.
