HOUSTON, TX – (June 28, 2022) This week, the ILA hosted Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, who met with the ILA and management from the Ports of Houston and Galveston. Together, these waterfront stakeholders discussed port issues and legislation, including the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2022. This legislation was authored Rep. DeFazio, and is the largest ever water infrastructure package to date. This legislation is now to be considered by the Senate and would provide investment in ports, harbors, and inland waterways. Other issues discussed were the Harbor Maintenance Trust, Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2021, which was introduced by the chairman and later signed into law.

ILA South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District President Alan Robb, International Vice President and Port of Houston Commissioner Clyde Fitzgerald guided the Congressman around the Ports of Houston and Galveston.
