Federal Maritime Commission Urges Biden Administration To Help Prioritize Vaccine Availability To ILA and ILWU Longshore Workers To Avoid Port Shutdowns and Cripple Nation’s Supply Chain

NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (January 29, 2021):  Two Commissioners from the Federal Maritime Commission sent a letter to President Joseph Biden urging him to  encourage Port States to prioritize vaccine availability to our nation’s dockworkers belonging to the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU).

“While we recognized that prioritization for vaccinations will be determined by the individual states, we believe that the Administration should emphasize the need to keep the supply chain transportation workforce in mind as each state deploys rapid COVID-19 testing and implements the vaccination process,” the two leading FMC commissioners, Carl W. Bentzel and Daniel B. Maffei wrote in a January 28th letter to President Biden.
