Labor Day Message From Harold J. Daggett, President, International Longshoremen’s Association

On behalf of tens of thousands of Sister and Brother members of the International Longshoremen’s Association working at ports from Maine to Texas, Great Lakes, major U.S. rivers, Puerto Rico and Eastern Canada, we wish all working American Families a Happy Labor Day.

The ILA is proud of its members who move the cargo in and out of major American U.S. Ports and keep commerce moving.

On this Labor Day Weekend, where our ILA members in the Port of Charleston, South Carolina are holding “Charleston Days of Grace” to memorialize and build upon the tragedies of nine parishioners, including the youngest son and aunt of Tyrone Sanders, an ILA member, killed in June at a Church Service and Walter Scott, an unarmed African-American shot dead by a white police officer, and other ILA members organizing important “get out the vote” programs at A. Philip Randolph conference in the Port of Hampton Roads to the many Labor Day picnics held in ILA communities everywhere, we remember the ILA leaders and members who came before us and built our strong union.

We remind all working men and women in America that the weekend you enjoy, the health care benefits you receive, the workplace safety regulations that protect you and many other benefits are all brought to you by the American Trade Union Movement.

Happy Labor Day!
