NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (September 4, 2018) The International Longshoremen’s Association, AFL-CIO today announced its endorsement of Andrew Cuomo for Governor.
“Today, the tens of thousands of ILA members offer their full endorsement for the reelection of Andrew Cuomo for Governor of the State of New York,” said ILA President Harold J. Daggett. “My great union was the first to endorse Andrew’s father, the late and Honorable Mario Cuomo for Governor of New York in 1982 and, a generation later, we are proud to endorse Gov. Andrew Cuomo to continue his father’s legacy and his own impressive record supporting the ILA, as well as labor organizing drives, contract campaigns and job actions across New York State.
“Gov. Andrew Cuomo has a proven record where his pledges have been backed up with powerful action,” President Daggett added.
The New York State AFL-CIO, in its earlier endorsement for the reelection of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, cited his record supporting working families: “When it comes to fighting for organized labor and the middle class, Andrew Cuomo has set a standard for every elected official in this country,” the New York State AFL-CIO said. “Working men and women have no greater champion for their cause.”
ILA President Harold Daggett and officers have met with Gov. Andrew Cuomo and are confident he will fight hard for ILA members and their families. The New York Governor championed his long association with the ILA, dating back to when he worked on his father’s reelection campaigns in the 1980s.
“With Governor Andrew Cuomo’s primary victory this Thursday and his reelection in November, coupled with last year’s election of Gov. Phil Murphy in New Jersey, the ILA is confident that the Port of New York and New Jersey, our union’s largest port, will have two pro-labor, pro-worker Governors working for us.
President Daggett urges all of his ILA members to support the reelection of Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
