ILA in TX Reports On Devastating Flooding in Houston; President Daggett Says ILA To Launch Relief Effort

Hurricane Harvey continues to pound Houston with rain causing catastrophic flooding. The ILA’s Port of Houston is impacted by this horrible storm that is expected to continue for days. ILA President Harold Daggett has been in close contact with Alan Robb, President, South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District and his other top officers and ILA officials in Texas throughout the weekend and will be planning a relief effort this week.

The images on television of the city under water are frightening and sobering. It’s hard to imagine what our Sister and Brother ILA members living in Texas are experiencing first-hand.

“We plan to do whatever we can to help,” said International President Harold Daggett. “Clyde Fitzgerald, the past president of the South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District was the first to respond when New York and New Jersey was slammed several years ago by Hurricane Sandy. It’s now time for the ILA to help Houston and other areas in the Gulf.”

The ILA plans to launch a fundraising campaign to assist ILA members who suffer losses from Hurricane Harvey, similar to campaigns the union organized following Hurricanes Sandy, Rita and Katrina.
