NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (August 29, 2017) Harold J. Daggett, President, International Longshoremen’s Association today announced the creation of the ILA Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and is appealing to his 65,000 members to contribute funds to aide ILA members in Houston, Texas and surrounding areas. Hurricane Harvey has devastated the Houston, Texas area with more than 49 inches of rain, causing destructive flooding of homes and businesses and crippling the transportation system in Texas.

“When Mother Nature hits us with her worst, ILA’s Human Nature always comes to the rescue and shows its best,” said ILA President Daggett in a letter to his membership appealing for contributions.

ILA members living and working in the Gulf area are no strangers to devastating hurricanes, nor are ILA members unfamiliar with helping their Sisters and Brothers pick up the pieces.

President Daggett noted that “ILA members answered the call when similar relief programs were created when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005 and when Hurricane Sandy devastated the Metropolitan area in 2012.”

Contributions to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund should be made payable to the ILA with a notation on the check that the money is designated for the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and mailed to ILA headquarters at 5000 Westside Avenue, North Bergen, New Jersey 07047. For additional information, contact the ILA at 212-425-1200.
